Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:
On that Moen model, the hub under the handle unthreads counterclockwise, it doesn't pull off. If it won't budge it's almost always mineral buildup locking the threads, so soak it with penetrating oil, give it 15 minutes, and use a strap wrench for grip without chewing up the finish. Check the side of the hub for a small set screw first, some models have one hiding there. Pull up the parts diagram for the 87300 on Moen's site so you can see the order everything stacks back together.
