How does Batman complete the Joker?

Here's an extract from the epic Christopher Nolan movie " The Dark Knight ". Batman : Then why do you want to kill me? The Joker : I don't.. I don't want to kill you...! What would I do without you..!? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, no! no. you.... you....complete me....! But how does Batman complete the Joker?

The Joker sees Batman, his nemesis, as the other half of an immortal coin. So long as they are alive and engaged in conflict, they both have a purpose in life.
