Archiving with tar always resulting in errors

Hello Ubuntu community. I am currently following the course "LFS101" from linuxfoundation.org, but I am having trouble replicating the exercise from Lab 10.3 of Chapter 10 showing how to archive and back things up: For example, the instruction commands are: student:/tmp> tar cf /tmp/doc.tar /usr/share/doc student:/tmp> tar zcf /tmp/doc.tar.gz /usr/share/doc student:/tmp> tar jcf /tmp/doc.tar.bz2 /usr/share/doc student:/tmp> tar Jcf...
