I made a list on the bash with all the packages installed on Ubuntu. Trying to restore them to another computer also with Ubuntu, I receive an error message saying that they are not on database. Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:

I have this in my notes. IF you get this error: dpkg: warning: package not in database sudo apt-get install dselect sudo dselect -> Update -> Install You may also want to remove old kernels in list. Some apps get replaced with others so it may not install everything. I typically review list and houseclean first.
