I have a project with tox configuration for testing, with different versions of Python and Django. With the move from tox 3 to tox 4, I included the configuration as a legacy ini in my pyproject.toml , but I want to modernize it. Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:

I have not used tox myself. Have you tried reading through the latest info at tox wiki - config ? While the TOML config tends to be more verbose, it looks like it would not take much to convert what you have to TOML. You can add the [tool.tox] subtable to pyproject.toml or create a separate tox.toml file based on your preference. Switching to TOML in tox version 4, you can drop the isolated_build key as it has been removed. The site states that isolated builds are now always used in tox v4 (from Upgrading to tox v4 ).
