Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:
6 years late but I think you forget how incredibly rich and diverse is the geography of America. It's not about the time that has passed, it's about how many miles has Little Creek walked in over a night. I think that Native Americans are pretty fit, at least he was, so he could easily walk about 20 miles in over a night. That's enough miles to go from California to Arizona. The Lakota Village is based on the Yosemite National Park in California, and the railroad construction is located in the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Both California and Arizona both have desserts and canyons in their southern regions, and they both are famous for the high, mountainous terrain in the north.
