The official novelisation indicates that the initial blow to the stomach caught Bond off guard. He's only human, and it takes him a little while to recover from being walloped with a pipe. The guard shoved Bond into an office marked ‘Press Manager’, just off the Press Room balcony. 007 was just able to glimpse a second guard in the office holding a camcorder, video taping him, when a third guard swung a club like a baseball bat and caught Bond across the stomach.
