Superman (2025) spoilers ahead! In the film, Lex Luthor successfully creates a genetic clone of Superman. This process presumably gave him access to Superman's DNA, fingerprints, iris scans, his true appearance (unaffected by the hypno-glasses), and a wealth of other biometric data. On top of that, Luthor's advanced technology and his apparent suspicion of "the reporter [Superman] always does interviews with" should have put him remarkably close...

Luthor never seriously considered that Superman had a human identity and, despite his genius, overlooked basic clues. James Gunn, director of Superman (2025) and co-CEO of DC Studios, addressed this directly in a Threads post , offering three reasons why Luthor couldn't make the connection even with access to Superman's genetic data: He doesn't think Superman has a secret identity. Lex believes Superman is "a disconnected alien who wants to take over the world." Clark actually "looks like another person" when wearing his hypno-glasses. Genius has its blind spots.
