Grip size for narrow hands with long fingers

I want to buy ergonomic grips for MTB. I had big problems with numbness that did not want to go away after a 300 km ride. Ergon produces two sizes, but it is not clear to my if I should choose the size based on the palm width or based on the finger length. They indicate the sizes based on the glove size, but that is often dictated by the finger length. When checking the box that I do not know the glove size they say I should measure the palm...

Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:

Based on my personal experience with GP1 (I need to buy 2XL or 3XL gloves because of the length, I have the L on my fun bike, my wife the S), the length of the hand matters more. You have the freedom to move your hands inwards but the small one give the impression to hold a narrow stick.
