The rule changes in effect at the 2026 WC are clearly documented (see: BBC , WP page ) but I can't seem to find any mention of this being in effect as well (though new red card rules for covering one's mouth and leaving the pitch in protest are clearly in effect and the first has even been enforced on at least one occasion). Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence but from having looked at a fair few matches and seen several players get all around the referees on multiple occasions as is all too common, the few times I've even seen the referee indicate to the players with their hands (though not using the exact signal described above) to give them some space, no yellow cards were...
