Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:
Another way to get the form output into variables is to use linefeed as a separator and read the each line into a variable. FORMDATA=$(yad --form --title='Test Form' \ --separator='\n' \ --text='Complete the form' \ --field='Name' \ --field='Email' \ ) cancelbutton=$? if (($cancelbutton)); then return; fi { read name read email } <<< "$FORMDATA"
