Dialog file selector for specific types of files

I'm making a bash script using the dialog package to launch the various Windows programs via Wine, so I don't have to go around hunting for these files. In this launcher I also want to add an option for selecting a file on my computer, and while I found a function in dialog known as fselect which would work well, I cannot find any information online telling me how to make it filter to only select Windows Executable Files, .exe and .msi. Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:

dialog --fselect does not appear to have filtering capabilities. Since you'll be using Wine, you might like a graphical file picker: windows_program="$(zenity --file-selection --file-filter='*.exe *.msi')" if [ -n "$windows_program" ]; then echo Using "$windows_program" fi
