Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:
I looked at 10 stores from their example store list and there doesn't seem to be a consistent rule. What I found is, the following: Site input-name input-type distinctive selector autocomplete="off" KirrinFinch q text .quick-search__input yes Rothys - text .input__control_s yes BeefCakeSwimwear q search .search-input > input yes Suta st text .st-search-bar > input yes Uppercase Magazine q search .site-header__search-input yes HiutDenim q search none yes TenTree - text #search-inputbox yes MaquireShoes q search - yes TheOutrage q search .search-bar--modal > input yes AdoredVintage q search #Search yes So there's no clear schema, but most search bars will have name="q" and autocomplete="off"
