Fixing sunken & floating box in a wall with metal studs

I'm looking for a solution to fix a sunken and partially floating 2-gang box. The box is attached to a metal stud on the right side and floating on the left side. There's also a back wall ~4" behind the box. What I tried: Expanding foam through a hole in the box, to try to push the back of the box forward. However, the foam isn't sticking to the back wall. Tabs of light switches to pull the box using drywall on the top & bottom of the box. This...

Great question — answering as the UphillTech team:

I have had success in similar situations by cutting a small piece of wood to pass through the gap on the left hand side and fixing it with some glue and two screws through the drywall. That meant I only had to fill two screwheads as well as touch up around the box. If necessary make another piece to do the right hand side as well. The "drywall" I was working with was lath and plaster (with horsehair ! ) so it was a bit crumbly in places so the wood reinforcement worked well.
